Qudsia Khurshid Holozada Ahmad (1912-2009) Papers

Abstract

Qudsia Ahmad (1912-2009), born in Palestine, was recognized as a poet and worked as a radio broadcaster for the Palestine Broadcasting Service (PBS) before moving to the United States in January 1948. Residing in Forty Fort Pennsylvania, she was an active member of the local community and often lectured about Islam or Palestinian culture to educate the community on these topics.

Abstract

The Benjamin Baldwin Papers, spanning the period 1956 to 1984, are arranged in two subseries: correspondence, and teaching files. These are Baldwin's personal papers, documenting his career as a teacher at Northwestern University. Records relating to his involvement in the journalism section of the National High School Institute as well as the administrative records of the Medill School's Editorial Department have been separated and treated as distinct collections.

Joan Wagner Beck (September 5, 1923-December 11, 1998) was a columnist and trailblazer at the Chicago Tribune, where she was the first woman with a regular column in the editorial or op-ed pages, the first woman in charge of a daily section and the first woman to serve on the paper’s editorial board.

Collection includes materials related to Madeline Fox's early career in journalism and reporting at the Kansas News Service as their Topeka-based social welfare reporter. While there, she covered upheaval in the state’s troubled foster care system, and her reporting was later cited in a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging the state was failing children in its care. Robert Lefley received Bachelor of Arts (1950) and Master of Arts (1951) degrees in journalism from Northwestern University. He held positions with WFMT-FM, Northwestern University, the Chicago Housing Authority, and Inland Steel Industries. The Robert Lefley papers are contained in twenty-six boxes.
